Ireland's Best Wedding Photographer – Niall Scully Photography

Same-Sex Wedding Photography in Ireland: FAQ for Two Grooms, Two Brides and Every Couple

Two grooms, two brides, or any couple at all: my approach is the same. I photograph your wedding in a relaxed, natural way, as it actually happens, with no awkward posing and no assumptions about who does what. This page answers the questions same-sex couples most often ask before booking a wedding photographer in Ireland.

A Real Wedding: Jenna & Aoife at The Millhouse

Jenna and Aoife, two teachers who first met at the Gaeltacht, married at The Millhouse in Slane, Co. Meath, with a humanist ceremony on site. They chose a first look so they could get their portraits done before the ceremony and have more time to celebrate with family and friends afterwards. Their wedding was featured on Style Me Pretty.

How I Photograph Your Day

Getting to know you first

Before the wedding we’ll talk through the day: who matters most to you, what you’d love to have photographed, and anything you feel unsure about in front of a camera. The more I know, the less you have to think about on the day.

No gendered posing scripts

A lot of traditional wedding posing is written for a bride and groom, with one person in front, one behind, one leading and one following. None of that is needed. I give simple prompts, like walking together, talking, or holding each other close, that work for any couple and lead to natural photographs rather than stiff ones.

Two getting-ready mornings

Many couples get ready in two separate places. We’ll plan the timeline together so the parts of the morning that matter most to each of you are covered.

Family photos, handled quietly

If any family relationships are complicated, tell me in advance. I’ll keep group photos short and well organised, and nobody will be put on the spot.

Where to Have Your Photos Taken

Ireland is full of beautiful places for portraits, from castles and country houses to beaches and woodland. Choosing somewhere that means something to you, like where you met or where you got engaged, makes the photos even more personal. For ideas close to home, see my guide to hidden wedding photo locations in Wicklow, or browse real weddings by venue and county.

FAQ

Do we need to pose differently as a same-sex couple?

No. The best photos come from you simply being together. I’ll guide you with light prompts and leave room for real moments.

We hate posing. Will the photos look stiff?

Most couples feel awkward at first, and that’s normal. I keep posed portraits short and spend most of the day photographing what is actually happening, so the gallery feels like you.

Can we both get ready in different places?

Yes. We’ll plan the morning together so the moments you care about are covered.

Can we do an engagement shoot first?

Yes, and it’s a great way to get used to the camera before the day. Here’s an example: Garry & Grainne at Poolbeg Beach.

How do we check if you’re free?

Send me your date and venue and I’ll get back to you quickly with my availability.
